A handmade ceramic tumbler featuring a serpent painted in luminous white glaze against a deep brown background. The snake wraps around the body of the cup, allowing the design to shift and reveal itself as the vessel is turned.
The contrasting white glaze develops an iridescent, softly shifting surface during firing, with subtle variations where it meets the dark brown glaze. Each approximately 8 oz ceramic cup is wheel-thrown and finished with a distinctive scalloped foot, created by pushing the clay of the lower skirt upward onto the body of the vessel.
Standing approximately 5.5 inches tall, the elongated form and ornamental base give this functional pottery cup the character of an old decorative vessel while remaining designed for everyday use.
Each handmade pottery tumbler is individually thrown, altered, glaze-painted, and fired by hand. Variations in the serpent, scalloped base, glaze movement, and surface are part of the handmade process and make every cup one of a kind.
Inspired by serpents, historical vessels, medieval ornament, mythology, and transformation, this ceramic cup brings symbolic imagery into a functional object made to be held and used.
