A one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic vase featuring an ouroboros and pomegranate painted entirely in layers of ceramic glaze. The serpent wraps around the body of the vase, consuming its own tail in the ancient symbol of cycles, renewal, destruction, and rebirth, while a deep red pomegranate sits above it.
During firing, the painted glazes melt and move across the ceramic surface, softening the original imagery and allowing the serpent to shift between recognizable illustration and abstraction as it travels around the vessel. Pale cream, green, blue-gray, and earthy glazes contrast with a rich red iron glazed interior.
Each vase is individually wheel-thrown, painted in glaze, and fired by hand. The movement of the glaze in the kiln means the final image and surface cannot be exactly reproduced.
The ouroboros and pomegranate bring together two ancient symbols associated with cycles of life, death, abundance, regeneration, and transformation. Designed as a functional flower vase or a one-of-a-kind ceramic object for display.
