A handmade ceramic cauldron mug featuring a green serpent painted entirely in layers of interacting ceramic glaze. The snake winds around the body of the mug, transforming as the glazes melt and move together during firing.
Deep brown and warm iron-toned glazes cover the rounded vessel, while layers of green, blue-gray, and cream create the serpent. The movement of the glaze gives each snake soft, shifting edges and color variations that cannot be exactly reproduced from one firing to the next.
Each mug is individually wheel-thrown and altered with three hand-formed legs and an elongated handle, creating the distinctive silhouette of a small cauldron. The interior is fully glazed in a warm brown glaze for functional use.
Inspired by serpents, transformation, mythology, historical vessels, and medieval ornament, these handmade pottery mugs combine functional drinkware with the character of a small ritual object.
Variations in the snake imagery, glaze movement, form, and feet make every mug one of a kind.
