A small star-like mark sits above the scorpion, while the flared rim creates a tall, almost bottle-like silhouette.

Rather than being applied after firing, the imagery is created directly with ceramic glazes. During firing, the different glazes melt, move, and interact, softening the edges of the original painting and creating variations that cannot be reproduced exactly.

Individually wheel-thrown, painted, glazed, and fired by hand, this one-of-a-kind ceramic vase can be used for flowers or displayed on its own as a sculptural object.

Inspired by scorpions, natural history, historical ornament, and the imperfect surfaces of aged objects, the piece feels somewhere between a functional vessel and an unearthed modern relic.
